By state law, students must be mailed the certificate of completion to them.  The student MUST sign and return the signed certificate of completion back to the court where they originally got permission. New rules are now allowing Certificates of competition to be sent to the student electronically.  By law, the certificates must be mailed to the student.  If you choose the mail option there is no cost.  If using the email method, the student must receive the certificate and print it on white paper and use a color copier in PDF format, then sign it and take it to the court.

What if I don't have a computer or a printer and I want to take advantage of the email option?

As long as you have an email address you can forward your PDF attachment (your certificate) to a friend that does have a computer and a color printer, or you can contact your local UPS STORE or FEDEX store, you might even check with the local library.  These third option may print you certificate for a small fee.

Are all courts O.K. with taking a defensive driving course online?

Unfortunately, there are a lot of courts in Texas with a whole lot of Judges who work their court differently.  There are many Judges who do not want students to take AN ONLINE COURSE.  Before you do one, you might want to call the courts, to see if the Judge allows ONLINE Courses.  It would be awful if you took an ONLINE COURSE and the Judge refuses the certificate.  Bummer.  We have in-person classroom settings.  You must abide by the courts, so you don’t end up with a warrant for your arrest.  Please listen to the order of the court.

How long will it take to get my certificate of completion?

Your certificate will be mailed the next business day after course completion.

DELIVERY OPTIONS ARE:

  • Standard Delivery – FREE!  Delivered by USPS with estimated time of delivery 7 to 10 days.
  • State Law does not allow and strictly prohibits certificates of completion being handed out  directly to students who complete the course.  Classroom students do not receive certificates in class and must choose one of the delivery options.
  • E-mail is now an option.  The certificate is emailed directly to the student.  The student must print the certificate on white paper on a color copier in PDF format.  There is not cost for email option.

Do I need permission from the courts before I take the class?

Yes.  There are some violations that the court will not give you permission to take a defensive driving course to dismiss your ticket.  Among them are having a CDL license, Going over 100 mph and other restricts.  That is why it is very important to get permission from the courts first before taking the class. You will probably be granted permission if you have not taken a defensive driving course within the last 12 months, however this is a grey area of the law, and judges can allow you to take another course, so ask the court if you can dismiss your ticket by taking defensive driving – the worst thing they can do is say no. Running a red light or stop sign, speeding, driving without a license, not wearing a seatbelt are several examples of traffic violations you can dismiss.

What is the cost?

Am I able to get an insurance discount for taking the course?

Everyone who takes the class for a ticket dismissal along with their certificate of completion will get an insurance certificate to submit to their insurance companies ( Ask your agent to see if you qualify). Our course is also approved to provide insurance rate discounts ( about 10%).  Here is an example:  If you pay $1,000 a year for insurance, your savings could be $300 ( The discount is good for 3 years).  And, taking the class to reduce your insurance rates, does not keep you from taking the class for a traffic ticket dismissal.  If you have particular questions about Laws regarding insurance, contact the Texas Department of Insurance Consumer Help Line at 1-800-252-3439.

What is the cost for Insurance only, or for your job or for continuing Education?

If you’re doing this class for Insurance only or for your job or for continuing education, the cost is $35.00.  Check with your agent for specifics.  Some insurance companies will give you up to 10% discount, which is good for three (3) years.

Do I need my driving record to take to class?

No.  Your court may require you to obtain a copy of the 3A CERTIFIED driving record to present to the courts, but we do not need to see it during class.  That is for the court.  The instructor will explain in class, how you or we can obtain the driving record for you to turn into the courts if they require one.

Is this for real? Comedians teaching the course?

Yes.  We have REAL COMEDIANS, not entertainers, who teach our classes.  All our instructors are TDLR CERTIFIED by the state of Texas.

Every one of our instructors has been on a comedy club stage and some have even won awards for comedian of the year.  Remember though, this is a defensive driving course and not a comedy club.  We must follow the state-approved curriculum in content, but we can find interesting ways of delivering the content.  We realize that humor puts people at ease, encourages participation and increases retention.  Although we cover some serious subjects, we keep it as entertaining as possible.  Isn’t learning the ultimate point of you taking the course.

What happens if I don't get the certificate to the court on time?

Failure to complete a defensive driving class, which you were given permission to take, by your deadline date may result in denied drivers license renewal, fines or even a warrant for your arrest.  If suspension does occur additional fines will be assessed.  Although we get certificates out crazy fast, it’s still your responsibility, if you requested defensive driving, to get the certificate of completion back to the courts on time, or face the consequences above.  Also, there’s a good chance that your insurance premiums will go up and up, and if money is not problem for you, don’t worry about it.

What if I decide to pay the ticket and not take a defensive driving course?

If you choose not to take a defensive driving class and just PAY your ticket, it will be recorded as a criminal violation and will be recorded with the Texas Department of Public Safety.  This record is checked by insurance companies to evaluate your current premiums.  If you show you have a conviction, that could increase the cost of your insurance premiums, which simply means you’ll pay more.
